I just received these stamps from Katzelcraft, who are a French stamp making company, and having lived 23 years in France, I wanted to support their products. Their “Les Piafs” bird set look quite similar to Tim Holtz’s “Crazy birds” and as it seemed cheaper too, I ordered them. As soon as I got them, I regretted it! Being new to stamping, I didn’t quite understand what “unmounted” was but I soon found out! You have to buy a separate backing sheet to stick the stamps on, then cut them before you can use them! What a hassle, and it came out the same price if not more expensive than Tim Holtz’s, in the end!
Anyway, enough complaining! After the initial hassle, I really do love the stamps and it was my first time colouring birds, or any animals for that matter! What I love about these birds is that you can paint them any colour you like. I’m so happy with the result but i still have to improve my colouring skills!
The background was stencilled in with StampinUp’s Bermuda Bay and the birds were coloured with my Tombow markers. I stamped the text by Funny Bones, embossed it, then I created a circle mask by cutting a circle on a scrap paper and covering the card with it, leaving just the circle over the text, which I sponged in with Stampin’Up’s Daffodil Delight. After that I wiped the text with a wet wipe, to bring out the colours of the text. They call this technique emboss resist, which I learnt last week and used it in this card.
I entered this card in:
Less is More One layer Geometric shapes or patterns. Its the first time I’ve entered such a “fussy” card into a CAS challenge but i hope it still qualifies! I’m also not quite sure what one-layer means but from the examples given, it must mean no raised images? Anyway, I learn so much by entering in all these challenges and visiting other designers blogs, which is probably their intention I guess!
CAS Mix it up card challenge – I just discovered this challenge blog and I think I’m going to enjoy making cards for their challenges! Just the right amount of requirements to make things a little complicated, and I love complicated!
STAMPlorations Flash Stencil project linky party during their fantastic blog hop. I didn’t know there were so many ways of using stencils on a card!
