La Mer…

Theres a beautiful French song called “La Mer” (The Sea) by Charles Trenet, click the link here and enjoy the song while you read this post. I’m listening to it while I’m writing this and it really puts me in the mood!

At the moment the only water we get around us is rain, and so it was nice when the theme at Less Is More was a one layer card with “At Sea” as the code word. Making it just made me look forward to Summer and hopefully seeing the sea again this year!

I have this die cut from Memory Box called Big Splash border that I find problems using but I knew it would fit this theme perfectly! I sponged a card stock with Stampin Up’s Tempting Turquoise and Pacific Point and die cut it with Sizzix’s circle dies. I used my wave die and placed it at the border of the sea and sky and cut it, being careful not to cut it all through on the sides. I stamped part of my Lavinia birds stamp and as it is supposed to be a one layer card, I decided to do an inlaid die cut style of my sea “portrait”.I removed a few tendrils from the waves and coloured it in with my Sakura gel sparkle pen but its a pity you can’t see it twinkle in the photo. To keep it really one layer, I added an adhesive plastic on the back of the circle which I had also coloured.(tip to myself: next time colour it before you die cut the waves!)

The sentiment from Technique Junkie was stamped using Momento tuxedo black dew drop ink and heat embossed with Ranger’s Black embossing powder. I made sure some splatter of powder stayed around the text so it would create a sort of “sandy” texture around it.

If you were listening to the song, I hope you enjoyed this little French interlude to help you wait for the summer vacations!
