Be Creative

After a break of a month, my creative juices are flowing again and I’m back to making cards. Its such a calming activity isn’t it, and its one of the rare activities I do where I am completely mindful of what I’m doing in the present moment. Doing daily meditations have helped me be aware that my mind is rarely in the present, but thinking mainly of the future and sometimes the past. Such a pity as “Life actually happens in the present” and we miss so much regretting the past or worrying about the future.

Anyway, card making really helps me be creative, not only because I learn new techniques, but because I have really started to look at things with new appreciation of its form, colours and texture.

So for this card I really tried to be creative and played around with different inks. I started out by colouring a glossy card stock with my Adirondack alcohol inks and cut a panel from it which I adhered onto my card. I stamped the sentiment from Stamplorations Hashtag authentic series afew times with my Misti as I didn’t realise the word Creative was meant to look like that, I just thought I hadn’t put enough ink! Lol. I do love the tattered look though.

I still have a long way to go to master my use of the alcohol inks but I’m quite pleased with the blended colours. I took a picture of the card before I added the flowers as I really love the card as it is, but my mum, who is still here visiting me from Singapore, said it look amazing with the flowers, so I added them. They were firstly coloured with picked raspberry distress paint before I added turquoise and lemon Brushos on top, and die cut them with my Spellbinders flowers die. The butterfly is part of the Spellbinders heart and flutter set.

  1. Gwendolyn, this is beautiful. The alcohol inks really give it a translucent quality – it reminds me of an expensive silk scarf. I agree with Cara – it is truly stunning with and without the flowers. Thanks so much for joining us at CASology this week!

  2. WOW! Your card is incredible, love all that fabulous colour and the added dimension of the die cuts was perfect. I remember buying some of those ink pads to create a background months ago (could even be over a year now) and I still haven’t got round to it. Thanks for the inspiration, maybe I’ll get a chance real soon.
