I wish I could paint like a real painter… with brushes and paint. I’m sure if I started learning how to, I might be able to draw/paint something which remotely resembles what I had in mind… but since I don’t have the patience to go through hours of painting lessons, making cards with stamps and inks satisfies my inner artist craving and also gives me the courage to maybe one day start learning how to paint properly! Lol!
I really love this stamp from Hero Arts, but as its a negative stamp (only the surroundings of the image gets colour) I’ve been at a loss of how to use it on a card. But when Addicted to Stamps came out with their photo challenge of an image of white text on a watercoloured background, I knew this stamp would be perfect, if I could give it the water-coloured background I had in mind. And I managed…after 8 failed attempts…to finally stamp it with the colours and definition I wanted!
This colour came from a combination of different Momento dew drops inks, Lemon Brusho and Tombow pens, added directly on the stamp. I spritz the stamp with water before stamping it on my card. The sentiment from Stamplorations new Cutplorations die cuts, was cut from one of my many failed attempts, but still good to use for die cuts!

I had so much fun with it that I decided to make another card, but with pink!
I coloured it with my pink Tombo pen, lined the edges with the black Tombow pen and gave it a spritz of water before stamping it on my card. I had a small piece of felt that was lining a jewellery box and used it to cut out my sentiment! The whole panel is mounted onto a black card stock.
I really love that the same stamp can give two completely different looks! Which do you prefer?
I entered this card in:
Altenew Flamingo challenge – I unfortunately don’t have any of Altenew’s beautiful stamps yet (I did hint for some for my upcoming birthday!) but I tried to imitate Flamingoes with the tall thin stems in my card!
Stamplorations Sketch and theme – i decided to follow the theme of using stamps and markers
The House that Stamps Built – I chose to go with pink
Rubber danse stamp challenge –
Great technique, these look fabulous! I know what you mean about negative stamps and I’ve tried getting a watercolor effect many times but never managed to pull it off. You’ve really nailed these and your perseverance really paid off!

Both your cards are gorgeous and love the idea of the stem imitating the legs of the flamingo, how very clever!

I’m with you – I love watercolor but the faux stamping kind is all I can manage. You certainly captured the watercolor feel here with these two beauties. Thanks for playing along with CASology this week!

Both cards are wonderful, Gwendolyn. I like how you tied the backgrounds to the sentiment colors. Cards can be quick art and that’s why I like them but I also paint and while it takes time it can be fulfilling. Give it a try.
