Its been awhile since I’ve made New Year’s resolutions. I think its because I either forgot what they were to begin with, probably the day after the New Year’s Eve party…, or because I didn’t tell enough people what I was planning to do so I would be shamed into seeing it through! Well this year, I’m putting it out there in Blogland. My resolution for 2017 is…to send cards I make to my friends!
I know, its embarrassing. I make cards, yet I don’t send them to my friends for their birthdays, anniversaries…only my friends here get them. So what did I do with the 110 cards I made last year, cause they’re not
taking shelf space decorating my house. I sent a few of them to my family in Singapore so they can sell them at the church fund raising or give them to friends, but a lot of them end up in my scrap bin when I decide I don’t really like them anymore!
This card is definitely not going to the scrap bin though. Its for a friend’s mother’s 75th birthday tomorrow. She’s an elegant lady who used to create costumes for the theatre, so I wanted something elegant but sweet at the same time, just like her!
This card was really inspired by the challenge at The Card Concept. They have a beautiful mood board at the moment, and I just had to make another card for their challenge. I first cut out a scallop circle with Sizzix die cut, on a gold card stock, and embossed it with Darice Wood grain embossing folder. I cut out a panel and adhered it to a black card stock and added the large polka dots washi tapes at the sides . I left the edges of the panel “raw” so that it would like more like wood. I created the shaker pocket, which actually sees right through in to the card, where I hand wrote in German: “Much love for your Birthday”.
To create the scallop circle border, I used the Sizzix scallop die to cut a scallop on another gold card stock, I then used a larger circle die to cut around the scallop opening on the card stock. I had a few flower die cuts using Altenew’s Peonie set, leftover from a “shaving foam” session, which I used to add a little more softness to the card.
As its a see right through card, I had to decorate the other side of the shaker so I used the same scallop border but with a polka dot paper instead.
Hope she likes it and that you did too!
Here the mood board from The Card Concept. Isn’t it pretty?
