There are a lot of techniques to make cards out there and I think I learn at least one new one a week! After I’ve learnt all of them, if thats even possible, I’m eager to see which style I settle in. For the moment I feel like I’m all over the place, as I’m always up for a challenge to try new methods. My friend Archana from HandmadeCardsbyArchana says my style is embossing…its true I heat emboss a lot and I love my Wow embossing powders! These cards have no heat embossing though…umm… no, I’m sure they don’t! They have something called Smooshing!
Its called that cause you have to push down your watercolours onto your card…. At first I just added distress inks on a square acrylic block, squirted water on them and pressed them onto paper, but all I got were 3 blocks of watercolour which didn’t blend very well. So I tried using a larger acrylic block and added my Brushos paint powders on them, squirted water and then pressed my cardstock onto the block. That gave me a very pretty smoosh job (don’t look into the Urban dictionary for that definition…).
This card is actually a complete CASe of Justine’s card over at JustineHovey. Right down to the ink splats and sequins! I used Winnie & Walter’s “In a word” digital cut file and My Favourite Things scallop die for the frame. I made it crooked…cause my hubby told me to do so…lol! The “beautiful” sentiment comes from “The Ton” and was stamped twice with my Misti, once with peacock feathers distress ink and another with mustard seed in the middle.
Obviously I wasn’t going to let the cut “Hi” go to waste (oh I just noticed I forgot to paste the dot over “i” 😱 hope I didn’t throw it away… ) . So I inked smooshed another background but this time with the combi of Turquoise Brushos, Pink distress inks and Scarlet Brushos. Made it crooked again so the other card had a partner in crime.
To add some sparkle, I brushed my new Spectrum Noir clear sparkle pen over the whole “hi wout the dot”.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a smooshing good weekend!
