First of all I want to thank all of you who left such kind and encouraging remarks and tips, on my previous post, about my paintings. As a baby crafter of only 1 year, I have so much to learn about card making, painting… and I am so lucky to belong to such a supportive community where I can learn and develop this passion of mine! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your techniques and taking the time to leave me comments.
Now to my card. I made it after my first lesson at Altenew Academy’s Beautiful Details online course. Obviously I didn’t like it as it paled in comparison with Marika Rahtu’s example or those in the student gallery, but as my hubby loved it, it was saved from the bin. As he kept on insisting it was beautiful, I decided to post it on Instagram and the responses really surprised me! People actually seemed to like it and a friend even said it was the best card yet…I still don’t think its that great, although I do like it more now that someone other than my (biased) hubby seem to appreciate it!
I’m not fishing for compliments here. I just realised that I’m rarely satisfied with the first result of a new technique at card making or art lesson where I have an artist’s example infront of me. Which is the contrary to my cooking results. I’m always happy at the first try of a new recipe… but can never get it as good again the next times. So not sure which is worst! Lol!
Anyway this new technique was simple enough. Use my Tombow markers to ink my stamp, and then use second and third generation stamping on the card. I used 2 different Altenew stamps for this card and Stamplorations for the sentiment. The problem for me is that I’m not very good at layering flowers and then we had to doodle and I’ve never done that before either! Oh well, now that I’ve had a few days since I last saw the original card made by Marika, I like mine more and more. 😁
Following my last post where I said I wanted to join a painting class, I decided to start with the basics of drawing by enrolling in a course by Jaysen Batchelor at Udami.com, and this is what I did after my first lesson! I am surprised and so proud of what I managed to achieve. It was copying his every move so that was easy for me to do…
In fact, inspired by Thedailymarker30day challenge, I have decided to dedicate the rest of March to just learning how to improve my drawing and painting skills. So I enrolled in tons of courses at Udemy.com (they’re having loads of sales at the moment) and the Watercolor course at Online cards classes. I do hope after all these courses, I will be able to make better flower and critter cards, which have always been my weak points.
Thanks again for stopping by and I hope you’ll come back soon to follow my progress on my courses!
I’m playing at:
Simon Says Stamps Monday Challenge – Layer it up, as I did add layers of the same stamp
The Flower Challenge – Anything Goes
Stamplorations March Theme and challenge I went with the theme
Muse Challenge – I just went with the pink & black
