Back again

Its been awhile since I blogged, did you miss me? OK, so its only been a week, but after blogging almost daily, it feels like forever! Perhaps some of you thought it was nice to have a break from my posts, I know my hubby does! I asked him the other day if he reads my posts, and he replied “…but there are so many!” So I could actually rant and rave about him here as he does’t read by posts, but that would be unjust, as he is so supportive of my passions, even cooking and doing the housework while I am deep into painting or card making, oblivious to the mess in the house or the kids dying of hunger… (luckily my mil doesn’t read my posts or she would throw a fit…).

The reason I’ve been a little absent from blogging is that I’ve been working! I was swamped with orders for cards, (I sold 34 cards last week!) and I think its going to get worst busier as Christmas approaches. But I delivered them all yesterday and I could finally get down to making cards for myself. I’m also taking part in an art challenge called 7 days of color wheel. Its the 1st time I’m taking part in a non stamping art challenge and I’m really discovering a lot of great artists and discovering my own style. Scroll to the end of my post to see what I’ve done so far.

Oct challenge main

I’ve been dying to enter The Ton’s card challenge ever since they posted this month’s gorgeous mood blog, but I pushed the pleasure of creating with their gorgeous stamps (I’m a huge fan of their stamps and their amazing designers…) till now. I guess because I’m always afraid I can’t do their stamps justice. I’m really happy with today’s card though and its mainly due to my Derwent Graphik line painters. I used them to colour everything you see on my card and the inks are so vibrant!

Oct challenge cu

I first stamped the coffee pot from Prima Marketing “Tales of You and me” with Momento’s London Fog ink, and added a little bluebell(?) from The Ton’s “Wishful Wildflowers” into the centre of it. I then stamped the large flower cascade also from The Ton’s “Wishful Wildflowers” to look like it was poured from the coffee pot. I love this stamp set as the way they’re designed, its so easy to colour in. I first traced the outlines of each flower and added in some lines in each petal, with the darker blue Derwent Graphik line painter called “Paradise”. I then coloured each petal in with the lighter blue called Minted, using light strokes. Before they completely dried, I went in with my water brush to blend the light blue

The beauty of these pens is that once they dry, they’re completely waterproof, so when I went in to blend the light blue ink, the dark blue didn’t blend and neither did the light blue completely, so some strokes are still apparent, which is what I wanted. I added in some more strokes of the dark blue and used the magenta pen called “Tickled” to colour in the centre of each flower. Once I finished colouring all the flowers and leaves the same way, I added some paint splats also using my Derwent line painters. When everything dried, I coloured in the background with a grey Zig clean colour real Brush. I didn’t have to be careful as the inks were not going to blend or bleed. I then cut out the panel using a pair of craft scissors.

The sentiment from Hero Arts was heat embossed with Wow silver embossing powder. I used foam tape to stick on the panel to my grey card base to add some dimension, and finished the card with a few paint splatters from my pen. So I think I managed to do those beautiful stamps justice, what do you think?

As promised, here is what I’ve created so far for the 7 Days of Color Wheel art challenge. It goes on until the 17th of November so jump in and create some art using the color prompt of each day.

Day 1 – Yellow                            Day 2 – Orange

Day 2 – 2nd entry for Orange. I’m particularly proud of this one as its the first painting I’ve done where I didn’t have a reference or was inspired by another artist. So its all me! I even created my own signature, which is my surname in Chinese.

Day 4 (today) – Pink. I’m cringing as I look at this one as the poor butterfly looked like he got squashed… but its the 1st time I painted a butterfly so… it’ll probably be my last too though! Lol!

Well thanks for making it to the end and I would love to know what you thought about my card and my art!

  1. WOW! Gorgeous card; your flowers are wonderfully vibrant! Cheering you on in joining the 7 Days of Color Wheel; your showcases are impressive! As for your butterfly; it doesn’t look squished but rather artsy and airy! Delightful! My husband doesn’t read my blog – and for that, I’m happy *grin*! Your enthusiasm for crafting is charming; I’m especially impressed that you have so many card orders. Wish I could figure out a way to sell mine (but not etsy). My sister-in-law is working on becoming my ‘marketing director’…she’s too funny!

    1. Thanks so much Carol for your wonderful enthusiastic and supportive remarks as always! Try selling it on your blog and use paypal as payment. I opened a Shop tab on my blog but haven’t taken the time to “stock” it yet! Lol! I sell mainly to my friends around me. Its taken me a year and a few “Do you need cards” thrown into our lunch conversations to remind them! Hugs, Gwendolyn
