World Watercolour Month – Sunny Days

The yearly World Watercolour Month iniated by Charlie Shields at Doodlewash has started and I’ve decided to take my courage with both hands and join in for the first time! What is World Watercolour month? I added an explanation at the end of my post.  Charlie provided daily prompts to inspire us but it’s totally optional.

The first prompt is “Sunny Days” & if you asked me afew months ago what comes to mind, I would have said sitting in a terrace in a café. But now i’m visiting my inlaws in Madrid and melting in the 35C heat, all I can think of is fans! So I decided to paint a Spanish “Abanico”- fan. I know there’s lots of improvement to be done & the dimensions are abit off but I’m proud of this painting as its the first painting i do that has nothing to do with botanicals…although I couldn’t resist adding flowers on it! I used Winsor & Newton watercolours with Raphael & DaVinci Kolinsky brushes. But here’s a pic of some traditional Spanish fans.
