AECP – Seasonal Scene Building

Whew, I’ve made it to the end of the 1st level of my Altenew Education Certification Program! Actually not “phew” at all as I SO enjoyed every single day of it. Learning new techniques everyday, creating something from what I learnt, & “teaching” it (well, sharing my method of making it here), is one of the ways of expanding your brain power, according to Jim Kwik, internationally acclaimed brain performance coach & trainer. I’ve been listening to his masterclass & pep talks lately and it must be true, as the more I learn & create, the more the ideas keep flowing! It also takes me half the time to create a card now, compared to when I started 10 days ago, with my personal challenge to finish all my AECP courses by the end of August. I still have 15 classes to go and 3 “tests”, but all I have to say is… Bring It On!

Today’s card was made after watching the 6 video lessons of the “Seasonal Scene Building” course, which shows you how to create different scenes to showcase your stamps. As usual, after watching all the class videos, I just wanted to make a card for each technique taught as they’re all so inspirational! Unfortunately I only have 24h in a day and even though making the card takes me not more than an hour or so, taking pics, editing, blogging about it, sharing it on social media…takes up most of my day! LoL!

I decided on creating a galaxy scene to surround my stamped image, inspired from the “Background Building Scene” class, using stamps from Altenew’s “Happy Dreams” set. I first stamped the sentiment with Momento Tuxedo Black ink and heat embossed it with clear WoW embossing powder so that when I added my distress inks, they wouldn’t “pollute”my sentiment. I then stamped the stars, which came in a cluster set. I didn’t want them grouped together on my card, so I masked the stars I didn’t want, directly on the stamp. I could have cut them apart but I was afraid of losing them later! Tip: Remove your masks before you stamp, if not the ink on your masks will transfer to the paper, which defeats the purpose of having the masks! 😉

I  stamped the stars with Versamark clear ink on my card and poured the “Glow in the Dark” embossing powder by WoW that I’m using for the first time, and melted it with my heat gun. Now I was ready to create the galaxy background with the distress inks & the heat embossed images will resist the colours I put down. You can use any colours, but blues, purples, pinks and yellows are nice choices. Once the colours I wanted were blended on my card with a sponge tool, I went over it all with Momento Tuxedo black ink. To finish, I splattered some water, then white acrylic ink over the whole card. Only once your card is splattered with white ink will it look like a galaxy, before that, it just looks like a badly blended card! Well mine always does anyway, LoL!

To create the “glow in the dark” effect for the “Be A Dreamer” words, which are the negative part of that stamp, I used my Versamark pen and went over the text on the card. I even drew in a comet where the arrow is, so when you switch off the lights…voila!

Isn’t that cool? I love it and I hope the boy I’m giving it to will think so too!

Wow, almost 2h has passed since I started this post, see what I mean… but sorry its so long. I could have just shortened it by saying “I made this card with distress inks and embossing powder. Thanks for stopping by” and it would have taken me 2 minutes! But I always remember when I first started, and I wasn’t familiar with the methods and the tools, detailed posts helped me so much. Even now when I see a card I like, I’m always curious as to how it was made. So this is for all the beginners & avid learners out there, I hope this post was useful to you. For the rest, I hope you enjoyed the pics at least!

Thanks for stopping by and your comments light up my day…and nights! (Yes pun intended!)
